NEET - National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

What is NEET?

NEET is a shortened form for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test conducted for all the
aspirants in medical field to help them in gaining admission to various medical institutes in India. In the year 2013, the Medical Council of India (MCI) introduced this entrance exam with a motto of One Nation – One Examination policy; thereby streamlining the admission process in India. Hence, to seek admission into any medical institute including AIMS or JIPMER, one has to clear NEET. This entrance exam is conducted by NTA – National Testing Agency on behalf of Government of India, with the support of DGHS – Directorate General of Health Services.

Who are eligible for NEET?

Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.• Any aspiring candidate who have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English as core subjects from a recognised board are eligible to appear for NEET. • According to the revised rules & regulations, MPC students too, can appear for NEET after studying either Biology / Bio-technology as an additional subject. • However, there are NO restrictions on attempt limit for NEET exam. • Students above the age of 17 years are eligible to apply for NEET examination. However, there is no restriction for upper limit.

NEET (UG) or NEET(PG) or NEET (SS)

NEET(UG) refers to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate which is conducted for
undergraduate students. In general, a student who completes 10+2 in Bi.P.C with minimum 50% of
marks is eligible to appear for NEET (UG). A student who scores good ranks in NEET(UG) will be
eligible to take up courses in both medical degrees and paramedical degrees. The list of various

NEET (PG) refers to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, which is conducted for Postgraduate
students. Those who have completed Bachelor’s Degree or MBBS can appear for NEET (PG) and once
qualified can get admission into various Postgraduate courses. This entrance exam will enable the
aspirants to take up master courses including Doctor of Medicine (MD), specialized courses, Ph. D and
fellowship courses.
NEET (SS) refers to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality, which is conducted for
the students who completed Postgraduate courses. This entrance exam will enable the students to get
admitted into Maternal and Child Health programme (MCH) that focuses on treating the women who
are pregnant, in labour or postpartum, and at the children from infancy stage to the children.

The NEET scores or ranks are very crucial for medical aspirants because the higher the marks
obtained in the exam, will give scope for better rank. This enables the aspirants to choose colleges and
courses of their choice during NEET counselling. Hence, hard work with constant practice and support
enables the students to top NEET exam.
